Design of Electric Excavator
There is immense push towards greener technologies which help in fighting climate change. Electric vehicles are gaining popularity due their clean and efficient operation . Main challenges in electrification of power train are energy storage, controls and management which impacts range and life of vehicles.
Engineers at Mecalac, developed electric excavator with zero emissions of CO2 and other harmful substances. Three major design challenges in obtaining optimum architecture are range, performance and compactness. Excavator architecture, includes mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components working in conjunction, which making optimization very difficult. Engineers at Mecalac used Simcenter Amesim to model and integrate mechanical, hydraulic and electric aspects of the excavator and validate it. CAD import functionality greatly helped in generating 1D model easily from 3D model. Using this Amesim model, engineers evaluated at various architectures which helped them in producing right prototype the first time.
