Improving 1D data with 3D CFD

An engine block cooling system can be analyzed to obtain heat transfer coefficient vs coolant flowrate for different coolants using empherical co-relations in a 1-D system simulation software FLOWMASTER. But the accuracy of the result in such a complex system is always questionable. In such a case, a 3-D CFD simulation is performed using FLOEFD to capture heat transfer coefficient vs coolant flowrate. Results shows that, CFD results using FLOEFD is much accurate and also gives detailed information about the temperature distribution and flow rates.
